The Unite For Nepal Team successfully distributed educational relief materials to Shree Uday Jalapa Devi secondary school, Thaprek VDC in Nuwakot District, which is about 100km north-west of Kathmandu. The materials which were distributed to the school included a computer with a printer, notebooks, a white board, markers, marker ink and dusters. There are more than 300 students studying at this school. The materials which were distributed as relief will allow the students to regain confidence in their learning and enhance a sense of normality at school following the recent earthquake in Nepal. There was a distribution function held where the local community, the students and teachers all attended. The programme was supported by the Unite for Nepal team in the UK who worked closely with the International Development Institute in the USA. Continue reading
KATHMANDU, May 19: Academics from the city of Liverpool in England have raised 8305 pounds for the earthquake victims in Nepal.
Over a thousand persons including staff and students of Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool Hope University, University of Liverpool and others, and a number of Nepalese doctors working in Liverpool participated in the Light up Nepal fund-raising program that generated 2281.25 pounds. A big map of Nepal was formed with lit candles in the ground of John Lennon Art and Design Building of Liverpool John Moores University where the participants gathered to pay their respects to the victims in Nepal.
Likewise, a volunteer team raised £2482.65 pounds from bag-packing in Iceland, and 3541.80 pounds have already been raised through an online appeal for help, according to a press statement received here. The raised funds will be to the Help Nepal Network and others registered charity organizations, according to the press statement.
भूगोल को सिमाना मानव जातिले कोरे पनि मानवियताको भने सिमाना देखिएन। नेपालमा धर्ती काम्दा भूगोलको अर्कै कुनामा बसेको मानव जातिको मुटु दुख्यो। लाखौंलाख विदेशीहरुले नेपालमा राहत पठाउन सुरु गरे। विभिन्न राष्ट्रमा सरकाले नै नेपाल मा सहयोग गर्न आफ्ना देशका नागरिकलाई आव्हान गरे भने कति देशमा नागरिकहरुले आफैं नेपालमा राहत पठाउन कम्मर कसेर लागि परे । बेलायतको एउटा शहर हो लिभरपुलका बासिन्दा पनि चुप रहन सकेनन्। त्यहाँ सानो संख्यामा नेपालीहरु बस्छन्। यहाँ व्यवसायी, प्रोफेसर, विद्यार्थीहरु र केही भूपू गोर्खाहरु बस्छन्। नेपालमा भूकम्प गएपछि लिभरपुलवासीहरु एकाएक सहयोग गर्न अगाडी बढे। बेलायतमा अभिनेत्री जोहना लुम्लेले एकै दिनमा बेलायतबाट करौडौं रुपैया सङ्कलन गरिन्। त्यति मात्र होइन बेलायत सरकारले पनि सकेको मद्दत गरिराहेको छ। लिभरपुलवासीलाई त्यतिले चित्त बुझेन । उनीहरु अर्को छुट्टै लिभरपुल युनाईट फर नेपाल भन्ने सहयोग अभियानमा लागिपरे । Continue reading
Former chief of the Nepal Army, General (Retd.) Rukmangad Katawal, has said that national unity among all the Nepalese, whatever the caste or creed, is a must in these troubled times.

Addressing an interaction organised at the Osho Shubham Meditation Center in South East London on Friday, General Katawal said interference from international forces in Nepal was inevitable if we couldn’t keep our house in order. “If we could develop our own national security policy, economic policy and political system on the basis of national consensus, no foreign power can dictate us,” he added.
Saying that he was an optimist, General Katawal said he believed that collective wisdom of Nepalese will prevail and Nepal will move towards the path of peace, progress and reconciliation. Continue reading

KATHMANDU , SEP 15 – Collection of funds for the treatment of ailing doctor Chitra Prasad Sharma Wagle have started in Nepal and abroad. Wagle, a government doctor who hails from Murgia village in Rupandehi, is suffering from appendix cancer and has been battling to save his life from the deadly disease.

He has served in rural areas of Arghakhachi, Palpa and Pyuthan districts over the past decade.
As the treatment of cancer is expensive, doctor Wagle’s treatment has been halted owing to financial problems. Nepali community residing abroad has been helping in collection of the fund and has started sending the collected sum back to Wagle’s family. Continue reading
पुस ५ गते थाइल्यान्डको बैंककस्थित एक विश्वविद्यालयमा भएको नेपाली विद्यार्थी अपहरणको घटना सेलाउन नपाउँदै पुसको २१ गते फेरि मनकामना घुम्न आउँदा भारतीय पर्यटक अपहरणमा परे। यी माथिका दुवै घटनामा अन्तरदेशीय अपराध हुन् र दुवै घटनामा नेपाल प्रहरीले सफलता हात पार्न सफल भयो।
सामान्यता अन्तरदेशीय अपराध भन्नाले सीमापार हुने अपराध हो। यो अपराध खासगरी कुनै पनि एउटा देशमा मात्र सिमित नभई अपराधीहरुले एक देशमा बसी अर्को देशमा अपराधिक संगठनको विस्तारै गर्दै घटना घटाउन सक्दछन। हालको दिनहरुमा अन्तरदेशीय अपराधले धेरै देशहरुलाई आक्रान्त पारेको छ। खासगरी मानव बेचबिखन, लागूपदार्थ ओसारपसार, अवैध हतियारको कारोबार, अपहरण र अवैध मुद्रा तस्करी हरु जस्ता अपराधहरु अन्तरदेशीय अपराध भित्र पर्दछन्।
A recent op-ed by a gang rape victim in Nepal has caused a stir in the mountainous country. Rape and other kinds of violence against women are prevalent in Nepal and many of the perpetrators get away.
Puja Bohara, a student in her final year of school, says she was drugged and raped by Sagar Bhatta, a book shop owner, and Amar Awasthi, a photographer, in March 2012 when she visited Bhatta’s store to buy some papers. The two men were sentenced to 13 years in prison and fined Rs 50,000 (about 500 US dollars) each by the Baitadi District Court for the crime. But the following year on April 28, 2014, the Mahendranagar Appellate Court overturned the decision and acquitted them.
After 17 years a long gap prime minister of India Narendra Modi has accomplished his two days visit in August 2014 at Kathmandu. The late prime minister of India I.K Gural had visited Nepal In 1997. Government of Nepal granted ceremonial guard of honour was presented to Prime Minister Modi at the airport and Nepal army also saluted by 19-gun. During the Modi’s visit time there was really tight security in Kathmandu. Peoples believe Modi’s visit has helped to build trust between Nepal and India.
